How do we transfer ownership of a file from one user (the source) to another user (the recipient)? Whilst there is a ‘Change Owner’ option on the dropdown list for j2e files, it does not work well within the Hwb context (yet). Here is another way to do it.
1. The source (teacher) user Shares the file with the recipient (‘i’, share…, shared with, enter display name>, add) – see above
2. The recipient views the file (shared files, open folder with recipient username – so in example above the pupil will see a folder called Mary Powys in Shared Files)
3. The recipient either :
- downloads the file, then re-uploads it in My Files;
- or inserts the file into a j2e5 document and saves the document with the file embedded. (To do the latter, click ‘i’, use in j2e, save)
The original file can subsequently be ‘unshared’ or deleted.
Tip – It’s possible to share a file with the entire class or other staff in this way. Instead of specifying the pupil name, select a class using the drop-down option in the ‘shared with’ window:
